Late Night Humor: Team Coco vs. Jimmy Fallon
In college, I became a huge fan of Conan O’Brien. I loved his quirky, irreverent, off-the wall humor. The bits on his show were equally genius and ludicrous. After NBC ridiculously fired him to bring back the famously unfunny Leno, I was stoked to see him get his own show on TBS. I figured the “old” Conan (from the late night days) would be back. I have to admit, while there have been flashes of former brilliance, his new show is too “by the book.” He feels like another boring late night host. There are occasional moments of silliness that makes me laugh but, for the most part, I enjoy the pre-filmed, off-set bits the most. For example, this recent segment made me laugh:
I have a painful confession to make, I have forsaken my first (late-night) love. At some point I was wooed by the boyish good looks and happy-go-lucky charm of Jimmy Fallon. At this point, my DVR always keeps the two most recent episodes recorded. Sir James has proven himself the best interviewer in television. He (shocker) actually seems to like his guests and want to talk with them! He also has his guests play ridiculous games (e.g., beer pong, corn hole, shoe golf, etc.) and lets them be part of the bits. His writers? Top notch (e.g., Jersey Floor, Real Housewives of Late Night, etc.). I make it a point to always watch his Late Night Hashtags and Thank You Notes segments.
To top it off, he has THE BEST BAND in late night and his own love of music comes through in his bits. My favorite musical bit? Slow Jamming the news (followed closely by the BP Oil Spill protest song). Classic!
All this to say, Coco will still hold a special spot in my life but Jimmy has stolen my heart.
Just for Fun Friday: Parks and Recreation Paper Dolls
Whitney and I are big fans of shows like The Office and Parks and Rec. I was happy to see that Kyle Hilton has made paper dolls for a number of popular shows (including Parks and Rec).
My favorite is clearly the Ron Swanson doll, complete with turkey leg, desk shotgun, gunshot bandage, and “Woman of the Year” award.
Here are a few enjoyable Ron Swanson moments for all to enjoy.
